Stepping into Professional Animation & VFX

This module feels like a big jump into the professional world of animation and visual effects. Over the next two semesters, I’ll be adapting an existing story maybe a film scene, a graphic novel, or even a podcast, and reimagining it as either a short animation or a digitally composited sequence, I’ve already decided I want to go down the stop motion route.

What makes this exciting is that we’re not just experimenting in theory; we’re learning how creative ideas actually get transformed into polished screen content using the same tools and workflows the industry relies on. That means developing my skills already gained from the first year, taking them to the next level.

As well as choosing stop motion to focus on, I’ll also need to understand the bigger production pipeline, the step-by-step process studios use to turn an idea into a finished piece of media. It’s not just about craft, it’s about learning how my work fits into a bigger team or production environment.

By the end of this module, I’ll produce a portfolio-quality piece of work, supported by behind-the-scenes documentation, style frames, and regular blog posts like this one, a way for me to share my process, experiments, and reflections, showing not just the finished piece, but the journey of getting there.

It’s both exciting and daunting, but the aim is clear: to grow confidence, sharpen my skills, and start building the kind of creative voice that could shape my future in animation and VFX.
